HUBUNGAN DUKUNGAN KELUARGA DENGAN PERUBAHAN KONSEP DIRI PASIEN PASCA STROKE DI RUMAH SAKIT HERNA MEDAN

Abstract

The number one cause of disability in the world is stroke, the third leading cause of death. Stroke can be interpreted as a collection of symptoms of brain disorders that occur due to impaired blood circulation in the brain, followed by psychological disorders, one of which is self-concept disorder. Family support for post-stroke patients is needed to give meaning as a life supporter. This study aims at analyzing the relationship between family support and changes in self-concept in post-stroke patients at Herna General Hospital, Medan. This is Correlative descriptive research type. The population is of all post-stroke patients at RSU Herna Medan, as many as 152 people. Samples were taken from the average stroke patients per month by accidental sampling technique, namely 32 people. The analysis used chi-square test with = 0.005 and 95% confidence level. The results of the study are that the majority of families supported 22 people (68.75%), low self-concept 17 people (53.1%), chi-square test results p value = 0.005 (p≤0.05). The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between family support and changes in self-concept in post-stroke patients. It is suggested to Herna Medan General Hospital to create a community or group for post-stroke sufferers so that sufferers can share experiences with each other to maintain their self-concept. Families are expected to continue to provide support to family members who have had a stroke so that patients recover quickly and do not experience low self-concept.
