Abstract
This study aims at testing and analyzing the effect of liquidity and solvency on profitability ; testing and finding out whether company size is a moderating variable in companies of basic and chemical industries that are listed on the Indonesia stock exchange period 2015-2017. The population used is specifically the industrial sub sector basic and chemical listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange which numbered 67 companies. From this population samples obtained are 23 companies through a sampling method with purposive sampling technique, which is a sampling technique based on a certain criterion. The research data used secondary data obtained from the official website of the Indonesian stock exchange www.idx.co.id. From the multiple linear regression test, results obtained partially liquidity (CR) variables have a significant effect on profitability (ROA) while solvency (DER) has no effect on profitability (ROA) while simultaneous liquidity (CR) and solvency (DER) variables have a significant effect on profitability (ROA). The analysis of the coefficient of determination obtained 0.165, which means the variable liquidity, and solvency can explain profitability of only 16.5% while 88.5% 88.5.8% percent is caused by variables or other factors. Residual Test Results show Variable Size of the company cannot be a moderating variable on profitability of companies in basic and chemical industries that are listed on the Indonesia stock exchange
