Abstract
Anxiety of pre-operative Caesarean Section (SC) patients is a problem for the operation to take place. The anxiety is experienced for various reasons including anxiety in facing the operating room and operating equipment, physical changes (body image) in the form of limb defects, fear of anesthesia, surgery failing, costly problems and worrying when the baby dies. Caring is very important for nursing care, which functions in the psychological care of patients pre operative SC. This study aims at determining the relationship between nurses' caring behavior and anxiety in pre operative SC patients at the Stella Maris Mother and Child Hospital of Medan. The study is descriptive correlative. The population of this study is all patients who are in the preoperative in Space Inpatient Surgical Hospital with SCas many as 150 people. Samples of this study are as many as 30 patients. The sampling technique is accidental sampling. The research instrument is in the form of questionnaires ten carative factor Watson’s and anxiety questionnaires HRS-A.Chi square was used as data analysistechniques. The results showed that more than half nurses have good caring behavior and more than halfmoderate and severe anxiety. Based on Chi square test, it showed that there is no relationship between the nurse's caring behavior and the anxiety of the preoperative SC patients with p.value = 0.446 (> 0.05), moderate to severe patient anxiety was not caused by the caring behavior of the nurse but others factor. It is suggested to nurses that it is necessary to make efforts to increase or develop the caring ability of nurses, especially patients who are going to undergo SC surgery; the next researchers is suggested to develop a study with a larger sample and conduct research on what factors causing anxiety in pre-operative SC patients
